Mihai Eminescu Trust started the project “REVEAL Alma Vii – Redescoperiți Alma Vii” on 1st October 2019. This is a comprehensive project for the restauration and functional reconversion of the fortified church of Alma Vii, Commune of Moșna, Sibiu County.

The financing of 500.000 US Dollars has been awarded by the Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) financed by the States Department of the USA, as a result of a world-wide project competition which runs yearly.

In 2019 only nine projects from the whole World were shortlisted and Mihai Eminescu Trust was awarded the greatest funding worldwide for the project “REVEAL Alma Vii – Redescoperiți Alma Vii“.

The project “Reveal Alma Vii – Redescoperiți Alma Vii”, beside its main objective to restore the protestant church, is aiming to put the church to use for other cultural, educative and touristic purposes. At the same time this project is also a part of the concept “The independent village” developed by Mihai Eminescu Trust. The goal of the project is to revive the local communities by getting the locals involved and to improve their life quality through the responsible use of the cultural and natural heritage. “The independent village” project promotes the local involvement in the community, as well as the use of knowledge, tools and traditional techniques.

“Reveal Alma Vii – Redescoperiți Alma Vii” will run for 27 months and will have 16 different phases of implementation.  First steps in the implementation process were already made. We finished the legalities of the financing contract and we defined the implementation steps. We now work on obtaining  all approvals for the restoration works of the fortified church. Until the end of 2019, together with the Embassy of the United States of America in Romania, the Foundation will organize events that will encourage local community members to get involved and take responsibility. At the beginning of next year we will start the process of finding contractors for the restoration works.

This project is aiming to place the monument into the daily life of the inhabitants by increasing the feeling of togetherness. The community members should be motivated to increase their standard of living, but keeping their traditional life style at the same time.
