The Mihai Eminescu Trust Foundation works with volunteers for several reasons, related to its mission and values. Working with volunteers, the foundation educates people about the importance of preserving cultural and natural heritage and the impact over time of protecting the environment. Through active involvement, volunteers become ambassadors of the foundation’s values, thus promoting awareness among the population.
Participation in the foundation’s activities provides volunteers with opportunities for personal and professional development. They learn new skills or gain experience in areas they want to deepen, get in touch with our country’s history and culture, and contribute to important causes.
Here is what Jude, a young volunteer from the UK, who joined the MET team this summer, told us.
“I had a very authentic and transformative experience during the time I spent with the MET team in the beautiful and historic Sighisoara fortress. All team members are very friendly and open and we had a great time!
Although I only stayed there for a week, I was able to see many of the Saxon villages in the area, to meet some of the villagers, local traditions, and rural culture. I dedicated a good part of the time I spent in Romania to translating texts into English for the foundation’s website, and I made a video, with the help of a drone, documenting the communities where MET worked and restored.
I was happy to see that there is a charity organization that protects the cultural heritage in this area because it is a truly special place!
Thank you for the warm welcome Caroline, Michaela, Anca, Sandel, Andrei and Sabin!”
Non-profit foundations, such as the Mihai Eminescu Trust, often have limited financial resources. Volunteers provide an important workforce, reducing costs and allowing the organization to run more projects with a smaller budget.

Volunteering is an important driver for achieving the foundation’s goals and increasing its impact on cultural and natural heritage. By working with volunteers, the foundation promotes the spirit of solidarity and cooperation in communities, helping to strengthen social ties and mobilize for common goals, such as restoring monuments or protecting biodiversity.
