Today we are proud to announce the launch of our advocacy campaign: Included. Excluded. When a Syllable Decides Destiny. This campaign is part of the “ȘURA – Laboratory for experimentation and inclusive civic engagement” project.
🤝Social inclusion is an integral part of our lives and affects us all directly or indirectly, be it in the case of Aunt Petruța, a lonely widow in need of help around the house, or Camelia, who despite her best efforts has remained unemployed for years, or David, a clever Roma boy whose neighbors hesitate to play with because his clothes are older and dirtier than theirs.
Social inclusion addresses all members of vulnerable groups, such as: persons with disabilities, with low levels of education, those from marginalized areas, individuals in the process of social reintegration, drug users, and victims of human trafficking.
🎤“In” or “Ex” – which side are you on?
Fourteen years after Romania’s integration into the European Union, the risk of poverty or social exclusion for those 65+ remains a staggering 33.9%, far higher than the EU’s average of 18.7%. 84% of children whose parents only attained a high-school diploma or less are at risk of falling behind in school by as much as three years, living in poverty or being socially ostracized, as compared to only 5% of children whose parents attained a university or post-graduate degree. Behind each data point, each statistic, there are people just like us who face significant daily struggles.
Change: A Real Possibility or Mere Passing Dream?
Join our virtual brainstorming session, where we aim to identify 100 ideas for social inclusion, inspired by your individual experiences and endeavors. These ideas will be featured in a common guide for several NGOs and social inclusion initiatives. Note down your idea or ideas in an email to: contact@mihaieminescutrust.ro by November 29th, the end date of our campaign.
