The week-long HORIZON reading camp hosted in Mălâncrav in late August brought together children from the village with a fantastic team of volunteers who led eight different workshops, spanning reading, personal development, crafts (in which children assembled characters from a story read earlier that day), and outdoor movement. On the last day of the camp, the older children enjoyed a long-awaited trip to Sighișoara. Meanwhile, the younger children had a picnic with “gogoşi” (traditional doughnuts), enjoyed a lively football match, and participated in a photography workshop resulting in a micro-photo exhibition, in which the children highlighted places special to them throughout Mălâncrav village. We look forward to sharing more details concerning their photography soon.
We attribute the success of the camp to the support of our partners at the HORIZON Foundation, a Netherlands-based foundation that has continually partnered with MET over the past four year to organize summer camps and schools for children hailing from four Transylvanian villages, and to our enthusiastic volunteers – Gabriela, Codruța, Ana, Amelia, Elena, Grigore, Federico, and Elena. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to our friends at https://www.facebook.com/MysticalTransylvania/ and https://www.facebook.com/casabreslelor.sighisoara who helped make the Sighişoara field trip unforgettable.
The Mălâncrav reading camp left us and our young participants not only with wonderful memories, but also with seeds of artistic and literary promise ready to take root.
