The Mihai Eminescu Trust (MET) Foundation is dedicated to preserving the local heritage and revitalizing the villages and communes of Transylvania, one of the most authentic areas in Europe. In short, the foundation’s mission consists in the revitalization of local communities in Romania and the enhancement of cultural and natural heritage. Through the projects dedicated to the protection of the environment and the reforestation of disaster areas, over the course of 13 years, we managed to plant 3.5 million saplings, together with 8,000 volunteers, 122 educational institutions (general schools, high schools, universities), 11,050 students and students from the beneficiary communities.
The Green Spaces program, 2024 edition, launched by MOL Romania in collaboration with the Polgár-Társ Alapítvány Partnership Foundation, aims to involve communities in projects to support the development of urban agriculture based on permaculture principles.
What is permaculture? Permaculture is a method of designing human ecosystems in harmony with the principles of nature. It combines sustainable agriculture, landscape design, and ecological ethics to create productive and time-resilient systems.
The MET values matched very well with the project proposed by the Green Spaces program: we thus started a living, green project that would civically activate the inhabitants for the protection of the environment and promote the concept of urban permaculture among students, a project that we called the “Urban Health Oasis”.
In addition to practical gardening skills, children will spend time in nature and exercise, all in a friendly and fun context, thus contributing to the development of the nature-relaxation association in the minds of the little ones. “Urban Health Oasis” will be the first educational urban garden in Sighişoara and the first garden built by the MET Foundation together with the community for the education of children in our city.
A healthy life brings balance, mentally, physically, and emotionally, and must be supported by a proper diet. The concept of a healthy and balanced diet is complex and includes several principles. It is important to understand that by choosing a diet rich in vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients, we say yes to a healthy lifestyle and opt for a quality life.
The “Urban Health Oasis” is an important first step towards generations of young people who are healthier, more engaged, closer to the environment, and more connected to nature.
* The “Urban Health Oasis” project is financed by MOL Romania and the Partnership Foundation through the Green Spaces program.
