A social business that offers tourists the chance to help maintain a traditional lifestyle that is in danger of perishing, but which also contributes to the well-being of the community and the development of the local economy
Experience Transylvania is an S.R.L. which belongs to the MET foundation and which, like ProMET (The Mălâncrav Orchard), was set up so that the resulting profit could be used as co-financing for the projects that the MET team manages to attract through various national and international programs.
The network has houses in seven villages in Transylvania: Alma Vii, Biertan, Criț, Florești, Mălâncrav, Viscri, but also in Maramureș and Câmpulung. These old houses in the villages were restored by MET craftsmen and they are an example for the villagers who want to open their houses for guests. The traditional guest houses are managed by families from villages who have participated in training courses in this field of activity. This social business offers tourists the chance to help maintain a traditional lifestyle that is in danger of perishing, but which also contributes to the well-being of the community and the development of the local economy. When tourists book a house with us, buy local products or try the local gastronomy, they support the authenticity of Transylvania, whose inhabitants continue to live as they have always done. Cristian Radu, our colleague and administrator of the guest house network, explains the concept of the network: “Because we want to offer experiences, most of our properties are rented as a whole, and prices are calculated according to the number of people. In this way, even a single person can rent an entire house, paying only for one person. The Apafi mansion can be rented entirely by at least two people”.
Tourists who arrive at the Foundation’s guest houses are guided to craftsmen, carters, bakers, bricklayers or blacksmiths from the village who offer them pleasant traditional experiences and different ways of spending time.
