The fire station in Mălâncrav is almost ready.
Started in 2019, this project is an initiative of the local community in the village of Mălâncrav, Laslea commune, identified and planned within the implementation of the ECOM Villages project, upon implementation of the action plan. It was completed with the support of Laslea City Hall, Horizon Foundation, Südtiroler Schützenbund and is carried out with the support of the local group of volunteer firefighters.
The contracted construction company is from Mălâncrav, and most of the craftsmen were trained by MET during the 20 years of activity. The upstairs room will host training courses for future firefighters.
Even these days, in front of this construction, another project is taking shape, this time financed by the Horizon Foundation, called “Mălâncrav – Community Public Space”. The idea was born naturally, following the community meetings I had with the villagers. They wanted to enhance the village, especially in the central area. Therefore, in this space that is currently being worked on, cultural events will be organized and a small playground for children will be designed. The village volunteer fire brigade offered to take over the management of the fire station and the community space.
The important aspects of this project are:
– It’s a solution for a real community need
– It represents the initiative of the community
– It represents a successful partnership between several entities: two foundations (MET and Horizon), Laslea Town Hall, volunteer firefighters of the village, the company of local craftsmen who carry out the project and Südtiroler Schützenbund.
– It respects and takes into account the harmonious general architectural aspect of the village; the community space was designed to resemble a traditional, large barn.
